Israel struck the Karun petrochemical plant in the Iranian city of Mahshahr in Khuzestan province. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards responded with a missile attack on a petrochemical plant in the Israeli city of Haifa. According to the Israeli military, no casualties were initially reported from the Israeli strikes.
US Donald Trump called on both sides to cease fire immediately. In a short post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote that Israel and Iran must “stop shooting immediately.” The president had previously urged Israel to halt its attacks on Lebanon to create room for a deal to end the broader war with Iran.
The Israeli military said it is preparing for at least several days of “combat” with Iran or a longer “campaign.” The strikes are being carried out by Israel alone, but there is “full coordination” with US Central Command, as the US military helped intercept rockets fired from Iran at Israel. Hezbollah has not yet joined the fighting with attacks on Israel, the military said, but it is prepared for that possibility.
