The Bavarian State Opera has surprisingly introduced Czech conductor Petr Popelka as its new General Music Director starting in the 2029/30 season. He succeeds Vladimir Jurowski, who has led the house since 2021.
Popelka has only seven years of his conducting career behind him and is considered an unusual but promising choice. The appointment was described as a surprise by the Süddeutsche Zeitung.
