Andris Kulbergs told Estonian broadcaster News that Ukrainian military specialists with frontline combat experience will arrive in Latvia as early as next week. They are to assess the air defense capabilities of the Baltic NATO member and propose improvements.

Kulbergs stressed that NATO must adapt more quickly to the growing threat from drones. “We have to go to someone who knows best in the world how to do this,” he said, referring to Ukraine’s experience in defending against Russian drone attacks. Traditional approaches are no longer sufficient.

The visit follows the signing of a bilateral “drone agreement” between Kulbergs and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the summit of Nordic-Baltic prime ministers in Tallinn. The backdrop includes several drone incursions into Baltic airspace and growing concerns over Russian activities in the region.

Kulbergs expressed confidence: “We will know what technical equipment is needed to best protect our skies.” Ukraine possesses the world’s most advanced practical experience in drone warfare.
