A Toronto police officer was shot early Thursday morning while executing a search warrant related to the March attack on the US consulate. The officer was taken to hospital, according to The Guardian.

A Toronto police officer was shot before 6 a.m. on Thursday while executing a search warrant in the northwest of the city, according to The Guardian. The officer was immediately taken to hospital. Police said the apartment search is linked to the attack on the US consulate in downtown Toronto on March 10.

In the March attack, two men fired several shots at the empty US diplomatic building before sunrise. No one was injured. The US ambassador to Canada, Pete Hoekstra, called the incident “deeply disturbing.” Canada’s federal police are investigating whether the attack qualifies as a terrorist act.

The Toronto Police confirmed that the search warrant was part of a national security investigation. The exact circumstances of the shooting of the officer are still under investigation.
