Theaters in Brandenburg Raise Prices Due to Austerity

Rising costs and tight budgets are forcing several theaters in Brandenburg to increase ticket prices for the 2026/2027 season, as reported by Tagesspiegel.

The Hans Otto Theater in Potsdam is raising subscription prices by up to 16 percent in some categories. A category 1 subscription with ten vouchers will cost 250 euros in the future. Single tickets, however, remain unchanged. The institution cites a tense financial situation and expects growing austerity pressure. In the past, one production per season has already been cut. In 2025, the theater counted around 100,100 visitors.

The Staatstheater Cottbus announced a ten percent price increase – the first in ten years. At the same time, the “proliferation” of subscription options is to be reduced. A spokesperson did not provide visitor numbers or occupancy rates. A highlight of the new season is a production of “Romeo and Juliet.”

At the Theaterhaus Kleist Forum in Frankfurt (Oder), single ticket prices are rising by three to five euros, corresponding to an increase of 13 to 20 percent. A spokesperson said they hope the funding structure will allow for reliable program planning. In 2025, around 50,000 guests attended.
