Abbas Araghchi called the dilution of highly enriched uranium within Iran’s borders the only acceptable solution to the nuclear dispute with the United States. According to US intelligence estimates, Iran currently possesses around 440 kilograms of highly enriched uranium, most of which is stored at facilities in Isfahan.
Tehran has deliberately postponed technical issues such as enrichment limits and existing stocks of weapons-grade material to a second negotiation phase. Araghchi stressed that Iran will only enter permanent peace talks once all provisions of an interim agreement are fully implemented.
Tehran’s conditions include the lifting of the US maritime blockade and the cessation of hostilities. The agreement must be based on mutual respect for sovereignty and strict non-interference in internal affairs, Araghchi said. Additionally, the future of the Strait of Hormuz must be clarified under international law.
By proposing to dilute the uranium domestically rather than shipping it abroad, Iran aims to preserve its nuclear infrastructure while allaying Western concerns about rapid weapons capability. Araghchi expressed confidence despite diplomatic efforts and declared that Tehran considers itself the ultimate victor of the months-long military confrontation with Washington.
