Deutsche Bahn completed the general renovation of the line between Berlin and Hamburg on Sunday. The work took around ten and a half months and began in August 2025. Completion was delayed by about one and a half months, which the railway attributed to frost at the start of the year.
Transport politicians from the SPD and CDU are now demanding more open communication from Deutsche Bahn regarding the renovation work. Björn Simon (CDU), the Union’s transport policy spokesman in the Bundestag, stressed the need for reliable schedules and transparent promises to the public.
Anja Troff-Schaffarzyk (SPD) criticized the railway’s management and called for more robust construction schedules for future projects. Despite the reopening of the line, serious weaknesses of the mega-project remain that cannot be ignored.
