US singer Oliver Tree dies in helicopter collision in Rio

The 32-year-old musician was among six people killed when two helicopters collided over a parking lot in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday.

The accident occurred on Sunday over an electric vehicle site in the Recreio dos Bandeirantes neighborhood in the southwest of the city. According to the fire department, all six occupants of the two helicopters were killed. On board one helicopter were Oliver Tree, passengers Lucas Vignale, Gaspar Prim, and Lucas Brito Chaves, as well as pilot Alexandre Souza. The second helicopter was occupied only by pilot Charles Marsillac.

The crash ignited at least 20 vehicles in the parking lot. Television images showed a massive black smoke plume visible from afar. The cause of the collision remains unclear; authorities have launched an investigation.

Oliver Tree, born Oliver Tree Nickell, began his music career in 2010 under the stage name “Tree.” He collaborated with artists such as Skrillex and Zeds Dead. His debut studio album “Ugly Is Beautiful” (2020) achieved gold status in the US, and the single “Life Goes On” went platinum. He most recently released the album “Love You Madly Hate You Badly” in April 2025.
