The UN Human Rights Council in Geneva has dedicated its session today to current crisis hotspots, as reported by Deutschlandfunk. The focus is on the war zones in Ukraine and Palestine, as well as the health emergency in the Republic of Congo, which is affected by an Ebola outbreak.

The council’s session serves to review the human rights situation in these regions. Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine continues to cause massive civilian casualties and destruction of infrastructure. The ongoing fighting in the Gaza Strip and the humanitarian crisis there are also on the agenda.

The Republic of Congo is currently battling a new outbreak of the Ebola virus, which further strains an already weak healthcare system. The Human Rights Council aims to draw international attention to the situation and coordinate possible aid measures.
