Authorities in southern Lebanon have urgently warned the population against returning to their homes prematurely. According to FAZ, Israel does not intend to withdraw its troops from the south of the neighboring country. The warning comes amid ongoing fighting and an unclear security situation.
The United States had previously announced that an agreement to end the Iran war was imminent. Such a deal could also have implications for the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. So far, however, there has been no concrete progress toward a ceasefire.
Lebanese authorities fear that a premature return of the displaced could lead to new casualties. Many areas in southern Lebanon are heavily damaged by Israeli strikes and littered with unexploded ordnance.
