US Donald Trump has confirmed a framework agreement with Iran. Citing Trump’s post on Truth Social, Ukrainska Pravda reports that he said: “The agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now concluded.” The deal provides for a 60-day period to draft a detailed peace treaty.
The signing ceremony is scheduled for June 19 in Switzerland. Vice President JD Vance is expected to be present in Geneva. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, whose country mediated between Washington and Tehran, confirmed the agreement and the date.
The memorandum of understanding covers three core points: regulating Iran’s nuclear program, reopening the Strait of Hormuz for shipping, and lifting US sanctions on Iranian oil. Trump said shipping in the Strait of Hormuz has already partially resumed. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed the deal on June 15, speaking of an “immediate and final cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon.” The Strait of Hormuz is to be reopened on June 19 after the official signing.
If the final treaty is signed, it would be the most significant step toward ending the conflict in the Middle East since hostilities began on February 28, when the US and Israel carried out airstrikes against Iran. Trump wrote: “This great deal will bring peace and security to the entire region.”
