As reported by Sportschau, the Tunisian federation officially announced the separation from Sabri Lamouchi. “It was officially agreed to part ways with coach Sabri Lamouchi,” the statement read. The federation’s leadership reacted to the North Africans’ 1-5 defeat in their first tournament match against Sweden.

Mondher Kbaier is being considered as interim coach. The 56-year-old previously coached the Tunisian national team from 2019 to 2022 and had traveled to the World Cup with the squad as the federation’s technical director. At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Tunisia had beaten eventual finalist France in the group stage.

The debacle against Sweden sealed Lamouchi’s fate. In Monterrey, Mexico, Yasin Ayari (7′, 90’+6), Alexander Isak (30′), Viktor Gyökeres (59′), and Mattias Svanberg scored for Sweden; Omar Rekik netted Tunisia’s consolation goal (43′). Lamouchi had said after the match: “This is a painful defeat. It hurts.”
