The German government has reported another decline in the stock of social housing. According to government data cited by Deutschlandfunk, the number of rent-controlled apartments fell again last year.
This continues a long-standing trend: for years, the number of social housing units in Germany has been steadily declining, while demand for affordable housing is rising. The Ministry of Construction faces the challenge of promoting new construction of social housing and securing the existing stock.
