In an interview with Euronews, Javier Moreno Sánchez, a member of the European Parliament from the socialist group, sharply criticized the Iran war. He stressed that European citizens are suffering from rising energy prices and inflation caused by the war.
“The US and Israel are waging this war, and we are paying the price,” Moreno Sánchez said. “European citizens are paying for it with higher oil and energy prices. It is crucial to end this conflict, because there are no winners in this war.”
Moreno Sánchez, who clearly opposes the war, said: “In this conflict, everyone loses. It is not a win-win situation.” He highlighted that Pedro Sánchez has also spoken out against the war and accused the US and Israel of violating international law.
“This war is illegal and absurd,” Moreno Sánchez continued. “We as Social Democrats and Socialists firmly reject it. What was the goal? To restore democracy in Iran? To stop the Iranian nuclear program? The result is sobering.”
He pointed out that despite the upcoming signing of an agreement to end the war, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has already announced that Israeli forces will not withdraw from Lebanon. This raises questions about the stability of a long-term ceasefire.
“The situation remains tense, and it is uncertain whether lasting peace can be achieved,” Moreno Sánchez concluded. “We must continue to work for an end to this war to protect the people in Europe and Iran.”
