Former ‘Top Gear’ host Jeremy Clarkson has made his cancer diagnosis public in the fifth season of his Amazon show ‘Clarkson’s Farm’. As Spiegel reports, the 66-year-old told his colleagues Charlie Ireland and Kaleb Cooper: ‘I have cancer.’ It is an aggressive form of prostate cancer, but it was detected early during a routine check-up.

Clarkson underwent surgery to remove ten percent of his prostate. ‘If I hadn’t been examined and the cancer caught so early, this could easily have been my last harvest,’ he said. In the season finale, which ends with a macabre cliffhanger, Clarkson addresses viewers from his hospital bed: ‘I don’t know how it will turn out. If all goes well, see you in season six. And if not, then not. Take care of yourselves.’

Clarkson is one of Britain’s most famous but also most controversial entertainers. After being fired by the BBC following a physical altercation with a production assistant, he found a new home at Amazon Prime. There, besides ‘Clarkson’s Farm’, he hosts the motoring show ‘The Grand Tour’ alongside his former co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May. According to a report by the Daily Mail, Amazon has already ordered a sixth season of ‘Clarkson’s Farm’, but filming is on hold to allow Clarkson to recover.
