The project development firm OFB, a real estate company of the Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen, acquired the property at the end of 2024 from the insolvency estate of René Benko’s Signa group. Galeria remained a tenant. Now concrete plans for the location are available: the lower floors of the department store are to be preserved and modernized, while the upper floors will be demolished. A residential building is planned on the adjacent loading yard on Pötschnerstraße, and a high-rise with offices and a hotel is planned facing Rotkreuzplatz.

Whether Galeria will remain at the location is open. A spokesperson for the chain announced a statement for March 10. Employees of the branch had repeatedly feared for their jobs in recent years, as Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof went through three insolvencies. Only at the beginning of 2025 did it become known that all remaining 83 branches – including the one at Rotkreuzplatz – were again operating profitably.
