Tom Holland, the actor best known for playing Spider-Man, has expressed confidence about the future of his profession. On the Spanish talk show ‘El Hormiguero,’ the 30-year-old said that artificial intelligence (AI) can never replace people or art because it has ‘no soul.’ ‘Creativity is safe from AI, because creativity has to do with the human experience,’ Holland said.

Holland emphasized that art is about emotions and mutual understanding. ‘AI can sift through data, but it cannot understand human emotions. It doesn’t understand the difference between joy and sadness,’ the actor said. Painting is not about copying but about self-expression – that is why he feels secure.

Not all Hollywood stars share Holland’s calm. Director Guillermo del Toro recently warned of a looming ‘visual illiteracy’ and ‘film illiteracy.’ Martin Scorsese, on the other hand, is working with a German AI startup to make its image and video AI usable for film professionals.

But Holland is not entirely untouched by AI: when AI-generated images of a supposed wedding with his co-star Zendaya circulated online, it caused confusion in his family. His grandmother at times believed she had not been invited, Holland told ‘Esquire’ magazine.
