Former German Education Minister Annette Schavan (CDU) described the founding of Europe’s first Islamic Theological Faculty at the University of Münster as a milestone, according to Deutschlandfunk. The institution is the first of its kind in Europe and aims to advance the academic training of Islamic theologians in Germany.

Schavan, who served as education minister from 2005 to 2013, emphasized the faculty’s importance for interfaith dialogue and integration. The University of Münster now hosts an institute that teaches and researches Islamic theology at a scientific level.
