The decision was made on the orders of US Donald Trump and took effect immediately. CENTCOM stated that all measures to enforce the naval blockade have been suspended. The US Navy is no longer hindering civilian vessels heading to Iranian ports in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

At the same time, large US warships remain stationed in the region. They are to monitor compliance with the peace agreement signed by the US and Iran on June 17. The memorandum of understanding provides for an end to the conflict and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

A meeting between US and Iranian delegations is planned for Friday in Switzerland. The talks are expected to address Iran’s nuclear program. The exact contents of the agreement have not yet been made public.
