Police announced the fatality but did not provide further details about the victim, as relatives had not yet been informed, according to the Süddeutsche Zeitung. For reasons still unclear, two freight trains collided while shunting on the railway bridge, a police spokesperson said at the scene.

The collision caused one train to derail, sending two wagons plunging from the bridge onto Schleißheimer Straße. One end of the wagons landed on the road, while the other remained on the bridge. Police said the wagons were empty and there was no danger to the public.

Recovery of the wagons began in the morning; the accident site in the Milbertshofen district could remain closed until Sunday, police said. According to a Deutsche Bahn spokesperson, the accident occurred on a line used exclusively by freight trains, so there were no disruptions to regional or long-distance passenger services. The extent of the damage and the exact cause of the accident remained unclear on Saturday morning.
