The 67-year-old comedian Hella von Sinnen (“Genial daneben”) suffered severe injuries in the fall: both ankles and her right thigh were affected, with the thigh bone crashing into her knee, causing ongoing trouble. She spent months in hospital and rehab, had to move around in a wheelchair, and felt extremely downcast.
The saving call came from the Augsburg Puppet Theatre, offering her a voice role — work that can be conveniently recorded at home in the living room. “When that call came, I was actually lying in my bed and wept with joy,” von Sinnen told dpa. It was a moment of great hope because she realized she could continue working, even though she did not know when she might ever return to the stage.
The entertainer is now fully back in the public eye. She hosts her own podcast, “Gestatten, von Sinnen!,” in which she talks to other celebrities. New episodes are released every Friday.
