The cuts in the healthcare system planned by Health Minister Nina Warken (CDU) primarily affect people with mental illnesses. According to information from Spiegel, spending on psychotherapy is to be budgeted in the future, similar to what is already the case for other specialist medical services. The number of therapy hours would be more tightly controlled, and surcharges for short-term therapies, which enable more patients to receive care, would be eliminated.
The result would be fewer available therapy hours and an even more difficult search for those affected. The care situation is already strained today, with many patients waiting months for a slot.
