The searches took place in Filderstadt (Baden-Württemberg), Potsdam (Brandenburg) and the Limburg-Weilburg district (Hesse). In addition, officers searched the premises of eleven other individuals, who are not suspects, in Brandenburg, Berlin, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein.
The five accused are alleged to have entered Germany to network with other IS supporters in Germany and Europe and to raise funds for the terrorist organization. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office is investigating them for membership in a foreign terrorist organization. The measures served to clarify the suspicions, according to a press release.
Officers from the Federal Criminal Police Office as well as police forces from Baden-Württemberg, Brandenburg and Hesse were involved. Just on Monday, the Hamburg Higher Regional Court sentenced a man to a fine of 5,500 euros for financially supporting IS. He had given the militia 220 euros via intermediaries.
