The death toll from the severe earthquakes in Venezuela has risen to 164, while 971 people have been injured. Experts suspect the actual number of victims could be even higher. The two earthquakes, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, caused houses to collapse and damaged roads and bridges.
The Venezuelan government has declared a state of emergency and plans to establish a fund for reconstruction. Friedrich Merz (CDU) pledged support to Venezuela, stating: “Germany stands by Venezuela’s side and will help.”
The Federal Foreign Office warns German citizens in Venezuela and advises them to take precautions. They should also register in the crisis preparedness list Elefand.
