Controversial director Uwe Boll sees himself censored by the German film industry. His new film “Citizen Vigilante” – a vigilante thriller about a businessman who takes on criminal migrants – received no age rating from the Voluntary Self-Regulation of the Film Industry (FSK). Without such a rating, commercial distribution on streaming platforms or in cinemas is virtually impossible.

Boll then turned to Elon Musk on the platform X. The entrepreneur and X boss made the film available in full on X for 48 hours. Tagesspiegel describes “Citizen Vigilante” as a “racist piece of work.” In the opening scene, a blonde woman is killed with a butcher knife by a black man in front of her child. The film contains speculative violence, misogyny, and a reactionary worldview, according to the report.

Boll himself defended his work in an interview with the “Berliner Zeitung”: The FSK is trying to deny reality by pulling his film from circulation. He sees himself in a tradition with films like “Taxi Driver” or “Natural Born Killers.” The lead role is played by Armie Hammer, who has been considered uncastable in Hollywood for years due to abuse allegations.
