The woman’s partner tried to free her from the alligator’s jaws, but her injuries were too severe. In the emergency call, the injuries were described as “horrific.” The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon near Orlando.
This is the third alligator incident in Florida within seven days. The day before, a boy was bitten on the hand while fishing in Marion County. On June 21, a snorkeler suffered injuries from an alligator at Rainbow River. The cluster is unusual.
According to the FWC, unprovoked alligator attacks on humans are relatively rare. Since 1948, about 500 such attacks have been recorded in Florida, just over 30 of which were fatal.
