The incident occurred on Monday evening in a residential building on a street directly bordering France. The suspect is believed to have fled on foot toward the French commune of Beausoleil, the government of Monaco announced on X. The injured include a married couple aged between 50 and 60, as well as a 13-year-old. The couple sustained life-threatening injuries, while the teenager suffered minor injuries. According to State Minister Christophe Mirmand, the teenager is “very likely related to the couple.”

The seriously injured man is Ukrainian multimillionaire Vadym Yermolayev, who lives in Monaco. He has been on a sanctions list from Kyiv since December 2023. The principality’s government stated that the “powerful explosion” was caused by a package bomb. The explosive device apparently contained screws and shot, Mirmand said.

Prince Albert II called it a “despicable crime” and “a shock for the entire Monegasque community.” According to Mirmand, this is the first such incident in the principality’s history. Around 50 firefighters and 80 security personnel were deployed; the area was cordoned off, and a helicopter circled overhead.
