A warehouse in the Wittorf district has been burning since Tuesday morning. The building is completely engulfed in flames, according to the fire department. A large plume of smoke is visible over the city, and the operation is expected to last several more hours.
The warehouse was storing batteries for e-scooters, police said. The cause of the fire is still unknown. No injuries have been reported so far.
The heavy smoke is affecting not only Neumünster but also the western communities of Aukrug, Wasbek, Padenstedt, Ehndorf, and Arpsdorf, where residents have been warned to keep windows and doors closed and to temporarily turn off ventilation and air conditioning systems.
