The painting depicts Merkel standing in a blue blazer and measures 110 by 140 centimeters.
The work will be on display at the Bode Museum until October 4. Afterwards, it will find its permanent place on the first floor of the Federal Chancellery, alongside portraits of former chancellors.
Merkel served as German chancellor from 2005 to 2021.
