The parade is the biggest spectacle of the Hannover Marksmen’s Festival. Alongside the marksmen’s clubs and marching bands, the procession includes colorfully decorated floats and rickshaws. The route is about ten kilometers long, leading to several road closures. According to police, the parade is expected to end in the afternoon, after which the closures will be lifted.
The festival was opened on Friday by Hannover’s mayor Belit Onay (Greens) with the traditional tapping of the beer keg. Earlier, an ecumenical service was held at the Marktkirche. The festival runs until July 12. At the Schützenplatz, visitors can enjoy 17 rides, 11 children’s rides, four walk-through attractions, and a VR experience. Eleven attractions are premiering this year, including the overhead ride “Transformer” with a flight height of 16 meters and the “SkyFall,” offering a view from 75 meters up.
Under the motto “Together. Attentive,” organizers are focusing on more protection and care: a Saferspaces QR code, a recognizable SupportTEAM, and a retreat room are intended to provide quick assistance. The security area has been placed more centrally on the grounds to increase visibility.
