Just days before the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkish police have detained 39 people, including journalists and academics. Meanwhile, a Russian missile strike on Kyiv killed at least ten people.

Days before the NATO summit in Turkey, authorities conducted raids in several provinces. The state-run Anadolu news agency reported that police detained 39 people. Among them are journalists, academics, and members of leftist groups.

The authorities described the raids as part of counterterrorism investigations. Critics, however, said the move aims to prevent protests. The NATO summit takes place Tuesday and Wednesday in the Turkish capital Ankara. The government of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has significantly stepped up security measures ahead of the event.

In a Russian missile attack on Kyiv early Monday morning, at least ten people were killed and 24 others injured, according to authorities. The city’s military administration said missiles and drones hit residential buildings and other structures. In the historic Podil district, four buildings were struck. Residents were initially trapped in a partially collapsed apartment building. Rescue teams evacuated 15 people, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The military administration added that two bodies were recovered from the building.
