The 51st Hamburg Ballet Days concluded with the Nijinsky Gala LI, a five-hour marathon of dance on pointe and barefoot.

The Nijinsky Gala LI formed the crowning finale of the 51st Hamburg Ballet Days. The ballet evening lasted five hours and took place on pointe shoes and barefoot. Before the first dance, applause rang out for former director John Neumeier, who took his honorary seat in the front row.

The program offered an enormous range: from Neumeier’s iconic piece “Yondering” by the ballet school to pas de deux from “Anna Karenina” and contemporary works. Young choreographer Neshama Nashman presented a modern duet with “And So Am I,” danced by Silvia Azzoni and Emilie Mazoń.

The highlight was the promotion of Olivia Betteridge, Charlotte Larzelere, and Louis Musin to first soloists. Lloyd Riggins, artistic director of the Hamburg Ballet, led the evening with ease. One audience member commented:
