The Kremlin has confirmed contacts with Turkey regarding a possible resale of the Russian S-400 systems. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the topic extremely sensitive, according to Ukrainska Pravda citing the Russian newspaper Kommersant.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russia and Turkey have contacts on the S-400 issue. The talks would continue, he said. Turkish media had previously reported that Turkey resold the Russian air defense systems to a country on the Persian Gulf to get rid of US sanctions.

Turkey wants to buy US F-35 fighter jets but is blocked by its possession of the S-400. The US Congress passed a law banning F-35 sales to Turkey as long as it possesses the Russian systems. The US sees the S-400 as a threat to the security of its fighter jets.

US Donald Trump hinted before the NATO summit in Ankara that he could lift sanctions on Turkey to enable the F-35 sale.
