The incident occurred on Friday evening on a regional train heading to Karlsruhe. The 26-year-old security employee had been attacked with punches and kicks by a 36-year-old passenger after a dispute. According to investigators, both collided several times with a train door during the scuffle. When the security employee tried to pull the man lying on the ground back up, the passenger allegedly kicked him hard. The 26-year-old fell backward against the door. It gave way. The rail employee fell through a gap from the regional train traveling at around 120 km/h and was severely injured.

The 36-year-old suspect, who has prior convictions for violent offenses and was on probation, was temporarily arrested but released. The Karlsruhe District Court rejected an arrest warrant, stating that there was no urgent suspicion and no risk of flight. The public prosecutor’s office had applied for an arrest warrant. The prosecutor’s office is reviewing whether to file a complaint against the rejection.
