Minister Andrii Sybiha, citing the Foreign Ministry, told Ukrinform: “Russia is holding global food security hostage. In just the last few days, Russia has attacked at least three civilian cargo ships. Dozens of crew members have been killed or injured.”
According to the minister, not a single ship passed through the Ukrainian sea route in the Black Sea today – and this in the middle of the harvest season. He called it a deliberate act of economic and humanitarian terror.
Just as Iran has attacked energy routes in the Strait of Hormuz, Russia is now attacking global food markets in the Black Sea. If this terror continues, millions of families in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America could face rising food prices and hunger, Sybiha warned.
“We call on all states, especially those directly affected, to immediately demand that Russia stop attacks on freedom of navigation in the Black Sea,” the Ukrainian foreign minister said.
The container logistics company Maersk is suspending operations at the Black Sea fishing port and diverting ships to Constanta, Romania.
