The Gas Lisbon, sailing under the Liberian flag, was en route from Alexandria, Egypt, to the Ukrainian port of Reni when it was hit near the Romanian coast on July 21. Romanian rescue teams evacuated the entire crew, and several sailors were injured. Romania’s president confirmed the incident.
Sybiha called the attack “another example of Russian terror.” The strike endangered shipping safety in the Black Sea and showed that the Kremlin respects neither international maritime law nor civilian lives, he said. The minister thanked Romania for its swift rescue operation and solidarity with Ukraine.
Just two days earlier, on July 19, Russia struck another civilian vessel, the Golden Leo, near Odesa, killing ten people. Sybiha demanded a response commensurate with the threat: stronger sanctions, more pressure on Russia, and full accountability for every act of aggression.
