The EU’s 21st sanctions package includes new restrictions in energy, finance, and trade. Ukraine’s acting Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha welcomed the agreement and stressed the importance of the planned entry ban for Russian soldiers. “Those who fight, enable, justify, or profit from Russian aggression should not enjoy the freedoms, security, and values they seek to destroy,” Sybiha said.
President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the EU and member states for the package. It contains strong measures to reduce Russian revenues and takes into account several Ukrainian proposals. Zelensky called on the EU to maintain unity and increase pressure on Russia. He hopes work on the 22nd sanctions package will begin soon, bringing even more effective restrictions to bring peace closer and weaken Russia’s war capability.
The package includes sanctions against 32 Russian banks, crypto companies, and vessels of the so-called shadow fleet. It is the most extensive package in four years, with 218 items. Earlier, Greece had blocked approval, but a compromise was reached. In Brussels, the next package is already being prepared.
