Deutsche Bahn (DB) will begin bridge work at Westkreuz on the evening of August 3, affecting S-Bahn lines S5, S6, and S8 as well as the Werdenfelsbahn. The work aims to operationally decouple the affected lines to minimize delays.
For the S8, a rail replacement service will run between Pasing and Harthaus until Monday, August 10, at 3 a.m. The S6 will be replaced by buses between Pasing and Gauting until August 13 at 4 a.m. The S5, coming from the east, will terminate at Ostbahnhof until August 10, after which it will run to Germering-Unterpfaffenhofen.
For the Werdenfelsbahn: No trains will run between Starnberg and Munich Central Station until Monday, August 17, at 4 a.m. August 12, replacement buses will operate on this route, stopping at Donnersbergerbrücke. August 13, passengers can again use the S6 between Starnberg and Munich.
DB is thus eliminating a bottleneck. Currently, outbound trains on line S6 and inbound trains on lines S5 and S8 cross at Westkreuz. When delays occur, trains sometimes have to wait for each other. In the future, the S8 and S5 will pass under the S6 tracks, eliminating such waiting times.
