In the same primary, Michigan Secretary of Jocelyn Benson secured the Democratic nomination for governor. She will face John James, backed by Donald Trump, in November. Benson aims to replace term-limited Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
In Michigan’s 7th congressional district, William Lawrence, a co-founder of the Sunrise Movement, won the Democratic primary. He now challenges Tom Barrett, who took the district for the GOP in 2024.
In Washington state, two-time centrist Marie Gluesenkamp Perez qualified for the general election. She will face John Braun. In Missouri, Wesley Bell defeated progressive former Representative Cori Bush in the St. Louis-area primary.
In Kansas, Cindy Holscher won the Democratic gubernatorial nomination. Republicans nominated Ty Masterson, the state Senate president, who is backed by Trump.
