The 79th Locarno Film Festival concluded with an awards ceremony that put German cinema in the spotlight. Culture Minister of State Wolfram Weimer praised the artistic achievements and successes of German productions.

With today’s awards ceremony, the 79th edition of the Locarno Film Festival came to an end, proving particularly successful for German cinema. A total of 20 productions with German involvement were featured in the festival program, including five in the international competition for the Golden Leopard.

Culture Minister of State Wolfram Weimer expressed his enthusiasm about the presence of German film: “German film was almost defining for this year’s Locarno program.” He highlighted that German filmmakers achieved impressive successes and presented an extraordinary diversity of perspectives and cinematic storytelling forms.

Weimer thanked the film teams for their contribution to the creative power and international appeal of German cinema.

The strong participation of German productions shows that German film is recognized not only at home but also internationally. The variety of stories and narrative forms reflects a dynamic film scene that continues to evolve.

Overall, German film was present in nearly all festival sections, underscoring the significance and influence of German productions in an international context. Weimer emphasized that these successes do credit to the creative power of German cinema.
