At least seven people were injured in Wednesday’s attacks, five of them hospitalized, Kyiv Vitali Klitschko said. A drone struck a six-story residential building in the Shevchenko district, sparking a fire and partially destroying the structure. A neighboring three-story building also caught fire.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian Shahed drones hit the university during classes. 160 students were sheltering in a safe room, and no one was injured. Education Minister Andriy Butenko stressed that the attack came just one day after the start of the new academic year: “The enemy is cowardly attacking the university.”
In another wave of attacks, a drone exploded in the Holosiiv district, hitting a warehouse building according to initial reports. Residents heard at least two loud explosions. Ukraine’s railway denied reports of strikes on railway infrastructure in central Kyiv.
Air raid alerts in Kyiv have barely let up since August 27; on September 2 alone there were seven. Military experts say Russia is exploiting a new “window of opportunity” and has stockpiled hundreds of drones, against which Kyiv has yet to find an effective defense.
