A logistics centre of the Ukrainian retail chain Epizentr in Khmelnytskyi was attacked ten times by Russian forces on Tuesday. According to the company in a Facebook post reported by Ukrinform, the fire destroyed around 85 per cent of the goods.

Russian forces attacked the large logistics centre of the Ukrainian retail chain Epizentr in Khmelnytskyi ten times on Tuesday, destroying around 85 per cent of the goods stored there. The company announced this in a Facebook post, as reported by Ukrinform. Five large fires broke out during the attacks, it said. According to the company, there were no injuries.

“In the end, the enemy achieved its goal – the fire destroyed about 85 per cent of the stored goods. Almost 30 drones in the sky prevented the fire brigade from extinguishing the fire,” Ukrinform quoted from the statement. The attacks had continued throughout the day, the news outlet ua.news also reported. The company spoke of a devastating blow.

“Destroyed logistics, enormous financial losses”

Epizentr stressed that after the destruction of two large logistics complexes in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, the centre in Khmelnytskyi was practically the chain’s last remaining large warehouse. Goods were delivered from there to the stores. “This is not simply lost goods. It is destroyed logistics, enormous financial losses and months and years of work by thousands of people,” Ukrinform quoted the company as saying. The news outlet ua.news reported that the company had stressed that all employees had survived. The attack caused considerable damage, above all through the destroyed goods and disruptions to logistics processes.

Attacks on energy facilities and Kyiv

As early as 13 October, according to Ukrinform, Russian attacks had triggered fires at businesses in two districts of the Khmelnytskyi region. ua.news also reported that in two districts of Kyiv, electric public transport had been temporarily suspended after Russia damaged several energy facilities in the capital. Previously, Russia had fired ballistic missiles at Kyiv, one of which hit a nine-storey building. Late on the evening of 12 October, the left bank of Kyiv was again attacked with ballistic missiles. According to the Telegram channel Nikolayevsky Vanyok, the Ukrainian military had no information about the launches, which is why the alarm was triggered too late.

Editor’s note: The information comes from the affected retail chain and Ukrainian media. There is no independent confirmation of the exact extent of the damage.
