Overnight into Friday, Ukrainian drones attacked a data centre of Russia’s Federal Tax Service in the town of Gorodets in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. This is reported by the Ukrainian monitoring channel Exilenova+, whose information is confirmed by the Russian Telegram channel ASTRA, as Radio Svoboda reports.
According to the analysts’ assessment, this is one of two central data centres of the Russian tax service that operate in a geo-distributed setup. State register data, including tax databases, are stored and processed there. The attack could affect the operation of Russia’s state information systems.
The head of the Gorodets district, Alexander Mudrov, confirmed the strike in the town. According to the Russian authorities, an infrastructure facility was damaged and three people were injured.
According to ASTRA and Exilenova+, a branch of the Azot plant of the Uralchem group in Berezniki in Perm Region was also hit the same night. The governor of Perm Region, Dmitry Makhonin, confirmed a strike in the region. According to him, windows in two apartments were damaged in Berezniki and Solikamsk, and an industrial facility suffered “minor damage”; he did not say which one.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, air defence “intercepted and destroyed” 443 Ukrainian drones on the night of 22–23 October. There is no independent data on this. The Ukrainian leadership has so far made no official statement on the reports.
