According to Ukrainska Pravda, Andrii Sibiga of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that Russia’s proposals for a ceasefire on May 9 had nothing to do with diplomacy. Sibiga reported that after the evening of May 5 Russia launched three missiles and 108 unmanned aerial vehicles (loitering munitions) against Ukraine; the attacks lasted through the night and continued into the morning.

Sibiga said that Vladimir Putin is interested only in military parades, not human lives, and urged that pressure on Russia be stepped up, including through new sanctions and greater isolation. Previously, Russia had unilaterally announced a “ceasefire” maneuver for May 8–9; President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had declared a quiet regime starting at 00:00 on May 6, which was later reported to have been violated by Russia.
