The trial against a 15-year-old, who is alleged to have carried out a racially motivated attack on two classmates at a middle school in Friedberg in October 2025, begins today at the Augsburg District Court. The proceedings are closed to the public because the defendant was still a minor at the time of the offense.

Court spokesperson Michael Rauh stated that the closed proceedings aim to prevent the young person from being publicly stigmatized. The Youth Court Act is intended to create an atmosphere of communication to ensure fairness for the defendant.

The teenager is accused of striking a 14-year-old student with a hammer without warning shortly before school began on that Friday. Another classmate who intervened was also injured. The two victims sustained minor to moderate injuries.

Isabel Kratzer-Ceylan, the lawyer for the second victim, praised his bravery for managing to pull his friend out of harm's way. The then-eighth grader described the incident as "Nazi-like" and reported on the severe injuries sustained by his friend.

After the attack, the alleged perpetrator fled but was apprehended shortly thereafter in an underground garage near the school. In addition to the hammer, he was found to be in possession of two airsoft pistols. Reports indicate that the teenager had previously threatened to carry out a shooting spree and has been in pre-trial detention since his arrest.
