The Alte Nationalgalerie on Berlin’s Museum Island is launching a new cabinet exhibition series titled “InterNationalgalerie.” According to the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (Smb), national galleries and museums from around the world will be invited to present their collections in a dedicated room over the coming years. National Museum in Warsaw will kick off the series.
The first exhibition in the series is called “InterNationalgalerie#1 – National Museum in Warsaw” and runs from June 19, 2026, to January 17, 2027. A press preview will take place on June 17, 2026. Works on display include pieces by Polish artist Jacek Malczewski, such as his painting “The Hamlet – Portrait of Aleksander Wielopolski” from 1903, as well as Jan Matejko’s “Portrait of Three Children of the Artist” from 1870.
The series is conceived as a long-term exchange project. After the Warsaw opener, further national institutions are to follow. The Alte Nationalgalerie itself houses a significant collection of German and international 19th-century art and is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.
