On Wednesday night, fires broke out at two locations in Cottbus: an alternative housing project called “Zelle 79” was the target of a suspected arson attack. Police believe two suspects from the far-right spectrum are responsible. Just a few meters away, a fence slat at the “Chekov” club also caught fire – investigators are also examining possible attempted arson there.

Interior Minister Redmann expressed shock: “The two arson attacks last night make me furious. Right-wing extremists are poisoning community life. Anyone who throws Molotov cocktails is willing to accept victims. That leaves me speechless.” Security measures in the city have already been increased, also in view of the action weeks leading up to Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Cottbus. A specialized investigative team is examining the structures of the responsible milieu, Redmann said.
