A resident of Aschheim found a brown bottle with dried picric acid while cleaning. The substance is highly explosive, and the fire department carried out a controlled detonation.

A resident of the municipality of Aschheim discovered a small brown glass bottle with dried contents on Saturday while cleaning. After doing his own research, he suspected a hazardous substance and alerted the police. The fire department’s emergency control center identified the substance as picric acid, which in its dried state is highly explosive and harmful to health.

Firefighters and police examined the sealed bottle in the kitchen. Crystalline deposits were visible on the inside of the lid. Due to the particular danger, emergency responders called in a CBRN specialist and the police’s special technical unit. Since safe transport was not possible, they decided to destroy the substance on site.

The detonation took place on an open area near the discovery site. Firefighters dug a hole, cordoned off an area with a 300-meter radius, and monitored the zone with a drone. Checkpoints secured all access roads. The police brought the bottle to the detonation site and handed it over to special forces. “The destruction was successful and without incident,” the fire department report states.
