Aktion Zukunft plus was launched in 2023 by the districts of Ebersberg and Munich together with the Ebersberg-Munich energy agency. It collects donations to bind greenhouse gases – for example by planting deciduous trees or rewetting former moorland. For a donation of 20 euros, donors receive a certificate for offsetting one tonne of CO₂.

45 percent of each donation goes to a certified climate protection project in the Global South, another 45 percent to a local project. The remaining ten percent cover administrative costs. Last year, more than 620,000 euros were raised in this way, donated by companies, municipalities and private individuals.

Augsburg is the first municipality to join the initiative through a new participation model. The city pays a membership fee and receives documents and materials to implement its own climate protection projects. District Administrator Christoph Göbel emphasized: “Especially in climate protection, we gain valuable time when we share functioning solutions and develop them further together.” Augsburg’s Mayor Florian Freund added that participation is an important step to anchor climate protection concretely at the local level.
