Dorothee Bär (CSU) has spoken out against a reform of the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG). According to Deutsche Welle, Bär described the situation of students in Germany as “very privileged.” This stance has turned many students against her.
The minister rejects an adjustment of state student funding, even though students and education experts have long demanded higher rates and a reform of the BAföG structure. Bär’s statement is facing widespread criticism among the student body.
